A fast-growing European energy technology company, part of a global leader in ecological and energy transformation, is seeking a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead and scale its core country operations across Europe.

As a member of the Executive Committee, the COO will own the operational P&L, drive day-to-day execution, and build the organisational capabilities required to support long-term growth and profitability.

The Role

As COO, you will be responsible for leading cross-border operational teams covering portfolio management, trading, technical operations, and service delivery, while shaping and executing the company’s operational strategy in line with its vision and growth ambitions.

You will play a central role in ensuring operational excellence, financial performance, regulatory compliance, and scalable growth across core markets.

Key Responsibilities

People, Culture & Organisation (30%)

  • Lead, structure, and develop high-performing operational teams across BE, NL, FR (and future geographies)

  • Foster a collaborative, high-engagement culture focused on performance, learning, and well-being

  • Drive talent development, succession planning, internal mobility, and low employee churn

  • Promote cross-border collaboration, mentoring, and knowledge sharing

Operations, Trading & Service Delivery (30%)

  • Oversee end-to-end delivery of flexibility services (onboarding, trading, dispatching, monitoring, settlements)

  • Lead the centralisation and optimisation of trading desks and 24/7 operational processes

  • Ensure strong risk management, regulatory compliance (including REMIT), and business continuity

  • Drive continuous improvement through incident analysis, reporting, and corrective action plans

Operational P&L & Performance (20%)

  • Full ownership of operational P&L across core countries (revenue, gross margin, cost control)

  • Deliver accurate forecasting, budgeting, and monthly financial closings

  • Optimise resource allocation to improve productivity and financial efficiency

  • Implement operational excellence frameworks, dashboards, and standardised processes

Growth, Contract Profitability & Customer Value (20%)

  • Optimise contract profitability and pricing structures in partnership with commercial teams

  • Minimise operational penalties through proactive monitoring and process improvements

  • Support customer experience excellence (high NPS, low churn)

  • Identify operational upsell and revenue growth opportunities and ensure scalability

  • Act as the main operational interface with Growth, Product, Technology, and Expansion teams

What We’re Looking For

Hard Skills

  • 5+ years of experience leading operational teams in the energy sector with direct P&L responsibility

  • Proven experience managing multi-country teams

  • Strong background in budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance management

  • Fluency in English and Dutch or French

  • High level of technical and digital literacy (energy data, platforms, dashboards, automation)

  • Strong commercial and business acumen

Soft Skills

  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to inspire, align, and hold teams accountable
