Job Position: Technical Director

Location: Spain, Remote/Hybrid

Position Summary

The Technical Director will be a key leader in building a leading Iberian renewable hydrogen generation business with the backing of our Client. In this role you will manage complex projects that bring together renewable energy, state-of-the-art hydrogen production and liquefaction technology to design and build commercial-scale green hydrogen production infrastructure. The Technical Director will have responsibility for overall green hydrogen plant architecture, integration, planning and execution. The Technical Director must perform detailed technical analysis, interfacing with external engineers, major equipment suppliers, project development service providers, constructors and offtakers. They will also help build an operational team to manage construction and operations of these hydrogen production facilities.

This role requires excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills and a proven track record of experience leading and executing complex technical and construction programs. This position reports to the CEO.

Your missions

 

  • Serve as a business partner to the CEO and leadership team of the joint venture to accomplish its strategic goals
  • Develop and lead an appropriate organization to support all technical activities of the joint venture
  • Support the joint venture’s growth strategy through identification, assessment and execution of green hydrogen projects
  • Analyze, assess and communicate high-level business, economic and technical impacts and risks of various project opportunities
  • Undertake detailed power and operational costs modeling and simulations
  • Manage plant design and engineering activities for a project development pipeline coordinating and managing outside engineering, procurement and construction services
  • Ensure projects are progressing on schedule and within budget
  • Hold cross functional project reviews throughout the development process
  • Select, manage, and direct third party consultants or contractors and review their reports
  • Develop and maintain a working understanding of the hydrogen fuel business, markets and related hydrogen infrastructure
  • Represent our client in a professional manner at all times and in all interactions
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Profile

  • Bachelors degree in mechanical, electrical or chemical engineering field of study required. MBA or relevant technical graduate degree or similar academic / professional experience preferred
  • At least ten years of experience in project design and execution in renewable energy, chemical or hydrogen industry
  • At least five years of experience with technical leadership role in large scale renewable power or chemical production projects and construction
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects, set priorities and multi-task in a fast-moving and dynamic environment
  • Ability to assess all technical aspects of the projects including among others: major capital equipment selection and procurement, EPC and O&M contracts, execution of the construction of the projects and performance of the operations and maintenance of the plants
  • Ability to identify key issues and opportunities and present in a concise and clear manner to non-subject matter experts
  • Knowledge and understanding of hydrogen, green energy or fuel cell industry
  • Computer and software systems skills as applicable to position including but not limited to analytical programming/simulation, project management tools and familiarity with basic computer aided design tools
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders at senior levels
  • Ability to role model high standards of professionalism at all times
  • Fluent in oral and written communications in Spanish and English
  • Must be driven and self-motivated
