Job Position: CFO

Location: Spain, Remote – Hybrid

Position Summary

The CFO will be a key executive in building a leading Iberian renewable hydrogen generation business with the backing of our client. The CFO will be a strategic partner to the CEO and joint venture investors and have responsibility for all financial aspects of this joint venture including corporate finance, bookkeeping, accounting and project finance.

The CFO must perform detailed budgeting and financial analysis of plant capex and operations, financing, power sourcing and hydrogen offtake arrangements, and be intimately involved in negotiations with customers, third party developers, energy marketers and EPC firms. The CFO will also manage day to day corporate finance operations, monthly financial reporting, annual budgeting, and long-term strategic planning.

Your missions

  • Serve as a business partner to the CEO and leadership team of the joint venture to accomplish its strategic goals
  • Basic day to day corporate finance, accounting, AP/AR management, cash management, bookkeeping, managing third party advisors
  • Develop a financial reporting system and process that captures historical financial statements and near-term/long-term forecasts and projections; financials will be maintained on a local GAAP and US GAAP basis and in both Spanish and English
  • Create and maintain project finance models for internal and external parties to evaluate hydrogen energy projects during various stages of development and operation on an individual and portfolio basis
  • Independently develop and run sensitivities for sales on hydrogen offtake arrangements and quantify resultant project level impacts
  • Review project documentation, including power sourcing PPAs, project financing agreements and hydrogen offtake arrangements
  • Lead a deal team on project level financings, deal structuring, negotiation and closing
  • Part of the Investment Committee and responsible for supporting the Committee in the fulfillment of its functions
  • Support routine reporting requirements to the shareholders as required
  • Develop and assure appropriate internal controls for the joint venture including any US Sarbanes-Oxley Act compliance requirements
  • Develop and lead an appropriate organization to support all finance activities of the joint venture
  • Develop and maintain a working understanding of the hydrogen fuel business, markets and related hydrogen infrastructure
  • Represent our client in a professional manner at all times and in all interactions
  • Perform all other duties as assigned



This role requires strong communication and analytical skills, experience leading and closing transactions and interfacing with board of directors. This position reports to the CEO.

  • Bachelors degree in finance or accounting and have relevant field experience of 10+ years. Experience in corporate finance or external/internal audit environment; CPA, MBA or equivalent certification is preferred
  • Experience structuring and negotiating and amending PPA’s and contracts with power marketers is preferred
  • Familiarity in negotiating EPC, O&M, supply and developer service agreements is highly desirable
  • Experience negotiating large capital equipment, EPC and other service provider agreements
  • Experience in the renewable energy sector, notably with wind and solar PV projects would be a plus
  • Experience sourcing public funding (grants/subsidies) for innovative projects would be a plus
  • Unshakable commitment to accuracy and adherence to data driven decision making
  • Expert command over Excel and project finance modeling concepts
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders at senior levels
  • Ability to manage complex projects, set priorities and multi-task in a fast-moving and dynamic environment
  • Ability to role model high standards of professionalism at all times
  • Fluent in oral and written communications in Spanish and English
  • Must be driven and self-motivated
